AEW Dynamite Preview: Canada Debut!

This week’s Dynamite is set to take place in Toronto for the first time in AEW’s short history. Of course the big main event that is announced right now is Canadian Chris Jericho defending his Ring of Honor title against Bryan Danielson. Another person you’d expect to see in AEW’s debut in Canada would be Kenny Omega…but unfortunately we’re still not clear if that suspension is over just yet.

Chris Jericho (C) vs Bryan Danielson – ROH Title Match

This will be the third meeting between the two with the score all tied up at 1. Bryan Danielson is always putting on great matches, and has seemed to find a great chemistry when working with Chris Jericho. I expect another good one from these two guys.

The interesting note here, is the fans will most likely cheer for Jericho as the face, so will these two wrestlers invert their styles when structuring this match? I think it could be a chance to keep this rivalry fresh.

When it comes to the winner of this match, I feel like it has to be Jericho who retains. First of all, they’re in Canada, but also Jericho has promised to run through all the great ROH champions. I think that has a lot of appeal to fans, and could be a way to shine a light on the history of ROH for fans who might not know all the former champs.

Billy Gunn vs Swerve Strickland

I cannot believe we’re getting this match. Not because it’s going to be a 5 star classic, but because I can’t believe how over Billy Gunn is in 2022. He has thrived with his role as the Acclaimed’s manager, and he’s still in fantastic shape, so we’ll see if he can still go in the ring.

Having Swerve Strickland be his opponent makes sense. Gunn cost Swerve and Keith Lee their titles, so in storyline wise, you could see why Swerve wants revenge. I think we’ll eventually get a third match between the Acclaimed and Swerve in our Glory, and this is a fun way of prolonging this storyline. As for who wins, I’d go Swerve because Billy Gunn doesn’t need a win at this point in his career.

There are three other matches announced for this card as of writing this. AEW interim women’s champ Toni Storm teams with Hikaru Shida to take on Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter. PAC puts his All-Atlantic title on the line against Orange Cassidy, and Jungle Boy is in one-on-one action with his former best friend Luchasaurus who will have Christian Cage in his corner.

All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
