It’s time for the second AEW Dynamite Grand Slam edition, and this year’s card is absolutely stacked. With 5 matches already announced, all of them being huge, and all of them being title matches. Headlining the show will be an all BCC match up between Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley to determine a new AEW champion!
Jon Moxley vs Bryan Danielson – AEW Title Match
After this whole debacle between the Elite and CM Punk went down, it left a massive whole in AEW, particularly its now vacant AEW champion. A tournament was put in place to decide this main event and it was two members of the BCC that emerged in the finals. Jon Moxley got a first round bye, and then beat Sammy Guevara to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, for Bryan Danielson, his path to the finals has been somewhat of a redemption story. He beat Hangman Page in the first round, and then got immediate revenge on Chris Jericho in the semi finals.
The one last step for Danielson is to even the score between him and his stablemate Moxley to become the new AEW champion. And I do believe that’s what is going to happen, but the reign will be incredibly short…
I think MJF is going to cash in his poker chip for a title shot after the Firm come down and beat bother members of BCC after the match. The poker chip hasn’t worked previously like the “money in the bank”, but I think it could be worked into a storyline that just this once it will, because Tony Khan was too loose with the wording of the contract and heel MJF will take advantage.
Swerve in our Glory (C) vs The Acclaimed – Tag Team Title Match
If you were able to watch All Out, you would’ve seen first hand just how over the Acclaimed were in Chicago. It hard to imagine a crowd hotter than that one, but Max Caster is from New York so maybe we’ll see the people at Grand Slam just as fire as the All Out crowd. A lot of people believed that calling an audible at All Out was the right call, but we’ll see how it goes at Grand Slam before determining that.
Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland have been putting on banger after banger since becoming tag team champs, and their match last week against the Lucha Bros was another example. But there have been teases of miscommunication between the two, and I believe it’s either a mistake by Swerve or a straight up heel turn on Lee from Swerve that see NEW tag team champs in the Acclaimed at Grand Slam.
The three other title matches for Grand Slam are PAC vs Orange Cassidy for the All-Atlantic title. A four way match for the interim AEW women’s championship that includes Britt Baker, Serena Deeb, Athena, and champion Toni Storm. And last but not least, Chris Jericho is going for his first reign as ROH champion when he takes on champion Claudio Castagnoli.
All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
