AEW Dynamite Preview: Tournament of Champions Semi-Finals!

After the shocking news that Tony Khan had vacated the AEW championship, it was announced a tournament would take place to crown a new champion. The big focus for this show will be both semi-final matches. We’ve also had a womens tag match that’s been announced, and hopefully we hear from MJF again!

Chris Jericho vs Bryan Danielson – tournament semi-finals match

This is a match that recently took place at All Out, with Chris Jericho coming out on top. He needed a low blow to get by Bryan Danielson, but he was awarded the win regardless. This time around, I don’t think he’ll be so lucky.

Jericho vs Danielson is a big money match up for sure, but there are more layers to this story. Of course the winner of this match will get a shot at the AEW title, but there’s also the question of “where does Daniel Garcia fit in for all this?”

Even though Garcia is a member of the JAS, it was Danielson who came to the ring to raise Garcia’s hand after the match. I think we see Jericho try and cheat to win again, but Garcia stops him to give Danielson the win.

Jon Moxley vs Sammy Guevara – tournament semi-finals match

Jon Moxley is fresh from cutting one of the most important promos in AEW history, when the company needed it the most. Moxley solidified himself as one of the company’s most valuable assets, and has a real shot at becoming wrestler of the year. Something that would really help his cause for that would be to win the AEW title once again.

Standing in Moxley way of becoming a three time champion is Sammy Guevara. Sammy was able to defeat Darby Allin on Rampage (albeit with a TON of outside interference), and make his way to the semi-finals. Sammy has a ton of heat on himself right now, and not really the good kind. If I was booking this show, I’d have Moxley squash Sammy in under 3 minutes.

So I think you know my prediction for this match up, and I’m going with all BCC final!

The only other match announced as of writing this is a big women’s tag match between new AEW women’s champion Toni Storm and Hikaru Shida taking Britt Baker and Serena Deeb. Interesting to note, that it’s not Jamie Hayter as Britt’s partner as it was Baker who cost Hayter the title at All Out.

All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
