It was a very exciting game between rivals CF Montreal and Toronto FC. Montreal could’ve folded early after going down 2-0 in the first ten minutes, but showed great fight to comeback and take all three points.
CF Montreal went down 1-0 very early in this one, thanks to a converted penalty by Federico Bernardeschi in the 5th minute. Samuel Piette thought he escaped the penalty decision, but VAR ruled it was a foul.
TFC were quickly up 2-0 after Lorenzo Insigne volleyed home from close range in the 7th minute. Bernadeschi went from goal scorer to goal provider, when he delivered a beautiful cross that Insigne put in the back of the net.
CF Montreal got one back in the 19th minute when Kamal Miller played a couple give and goes before leaving the ball to Kei Kamara. Kamara saw his shot stopped, but Miller pounced on the rebound, and halved the deficit.
Only 2 minutes later, CF Montreal were level. Dorde Mihailovic received the ball in a pocket of space before unleashing a fantastic strike that found the top corner. Game is all square at 2.
The crazy first half would see one more goal and it right before the halftime whistle. Kei Kamara did really well to track down a loose ball, fight his way past a defender before slotting home to give CF Montreal a 3-2 lead going into the break.
Montreal would add to their lead 9 minutes after the restart. Alistair Johnston found himself free in the box, and after a header down from Kei Kamara, Johnston beat his man in the air to put his header past Bono.
Lorenzo Insigne would add a second in this game in the 93rd minute, on a great solo effort. It was too little too late for TFC, as Montreal would be able to hold from there.
This was a fantastic character win for CF Montreal, not only to win a big match on the road to a rival, but to also come back from 2 goals down. This puts Montreal in second place with a 5 point gap, and a game in hand. CFM’s next game will be this coming Friday night against Columbus.
