After their dramatic comeback on Wednesday, CF Montreal could only manage a draw at home on Saturday. Romell quioto added two more goals to his tally for the season, bringing him to 11 goals in total. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as an Emerson Rodriguez 79th minute equalizer saw the game end in a tie.
In the 5th minute, CF Montreal got off to a great start, when Samuel Piette sent in a picture perfect cross to Romell Quioto who made no mistake to make it 1-0 Montreal.
Less than a minute later, Inter Miami where level. Gonzalo Higuain latched on a good ball, and put his shot past James Pantemis to make it 1-1.
Sam Piette was playing provider again, and this time his dangerous cross hit a hand of an Inter Miami defender, and after a VAR check, a penalty was given. Quioto stepped up for Montreal, and he scored his second of the game in the 21st minute.
Mason Toye had the last chance of the half, but he put his header just over the crossbar.
Toye had another good chance to start the second half, after a terrible clearance by Inter. Toye hit a hard, low shot that forced a really good save from Inter keeper Drake Callender.
Just a minute later, Djorde Mihailovic tested Callender, and again, the Inter Miami keeper made the save.
In the 79th minute, Inter substitute Emerson Rodriguez made it 2-2. Rodriguez made a really good run and took a shot that was initially saved by Pantemis, but poor communication led to Rodriguez scoring on the second attempt.
The best chance from either team to take the lead back came to CF Montreal. Alistair Johnston met a cross from Lassi Lappalainen, but his header went just wide.
So it’s just a point for CF Montreal in a game that probably led to all three points. But Wilfred Nancy should be happy with the overall performance. With this draw, CF Montreal remain in 3rd place in the east.
CF Montreal’s next game will be on Saturday against Huston Dynamo.
