CF montreal were able to make it 9 points from 9, as the walked out winners of a 2-1 game on the road. Romell Quioto was able to add two more goals to his total on the year by scoring twice in the opening half. DC United were able to get one back in the second half, but CF Montreal Held on for the win.
First Half:
45 seconds into this game, good pressure from Romell Quioto forced a turnover and found himself in on goal. He stumbled around the keeper, before slotting into the back of the net. 1-0 Montreal.
Alistair Johnston thought he made it 2-0 15 minutes later, but Quioto was flagged for offside in the build up. Very close play, but it was the right call.
Miguel Berry had a chance to equalize for DC United 10 minutes later. He was all alone in front of James Pantemis, and Pantemis did just enough to block the shot and keep it 1-0.
In the 35th minute, it was 2-0 Montreal. Joel Waterman played a hopeful ball that ended up right in the path of Romell Quioto, and Quioto did really well to chip the DC keeper for his second goal of the game.
In the 45th minute, Lassi Lappalainen almost made it 3, but a fantastic save by Rafeal Romo kept the score at 2-0 going into the break.
Second Half:
James Pantemis was called into action again in the 51st minute, and again it was Maguel Berry with the chance. Berry latched on to a good ball in the area, and forced a really good save from the CF Montreal keeper.
There was nothing Pantemis could do off a Steve Birnbaum header in the 56th minute. Off a set piece, Birnbaum put his header in the perfect spot to beat Pantemis, and halve the deficit.
In the 62nd minute, Miguel Berry cut inside the area, found himself room, but was again was denied by Pantemis who made a diving save.
DC United’s last chance came in the 79th minute, when Kimarni Switch broke away from two defenders but his shot went just wide. There was debate if Smith was fouled in the box, and if he went down it probably would’ve been given.
At full time CF Montreal did just enough to hang on to the win, even though DC pretty much dominated the second half. CF Montreal now look to next Saturday when New York City FC come to town. It’ll be a big game, as it pits 2nd place vs 3rd place in the east against each other.
