With only four days to go before the big AEW x NJPW show, Forbidden Door, we will be getting a preview of what that show will be like on the upcoming episode of Dynamite. Two of the three announced matches so far have both AEW and NJPW wrestlers involved. So far, we have a couple big time tag matches, and the final qualifier for All Atlantic championship four way title match.
Penta Oscuro vs Malakai Black – All Atlantic Qualifying Match
If this match is anything like the Buddy Matthews vs PAC match, we’re in for a good one. Death Triangle and House of Black have shown they have great chemistry together, and here will be another chance to add to the list of good matches.
As soon as I saw the bracket for this tournament, I thought to myself “whoever wins this title, I’ll be happy”. I’m a big fan of all six wrestlers on the AEW side, and I’m fine with whoever wins. I think though I slightly want Malakai Black to win it over everyone else though. I feel a title will bring his stable more legitimacy, and he would be a great first champion.
Having said that, you also can’t go wrong with Penta Oscar either. Penta is a big fan favourite and has a huge following as well. I think that it will be Malakai Black to win here though, just to even things out with PAC picking up the win a couple weeks ago.
Jon Moxley & Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Chris Jericho & Lance Archer
This match seems like it should only be available in a video game, but here we are, in real life, have Jon Moxley and Hiroshi Tanahashi teaming together on an episode of Dynamite. This match stems from the segment last week, where Chris Jericho interrupted Mox and Tanahashi and tried a sneak attack.
It’s also a preview of Forbidden Door as Jericho will be teaming with Minoru Suzuki on Sunday, but on Dynamite he teams with one of Suzuki’s stablemates Lance Archer. I think that Mox and Tanahashi get the win because they are going for the interim AEW Championship on Sudan and need to feel like the bigger deal.
United Empire vs Orange Cassidy & Roppongi Vice
If you are only experiencing Will Ospreay now for the first time, you should be in awe. The United Empire leader is one of the best in the world, and it’s awesome that he’s finally getting a big stage in North America.
Ospreay’s group will be taking on Roppongi Vice and the returning Orange Cassidy. Cassidy and Ospreay will face off at Forbidden door, but will be getting a little preview in this 6-man tag. After United Empire lost on Rampage a couple weeks ago, I hope they get the win here.
If it seems like there’s a lot to follow here… it’s because there is. The Forbidden Door PPV is not for the casual fan, as there is so many moving pieces, different factions, and a lot of titles on the line. There’s still the mystery of who Jay White will be facing for the IWGP World Heavyweight championship, and Bryan Danielson addresses Blood and Guts!
All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
