This will be a tough one for Wilfred Nancy and CF Montreal to take. Austin FC went down to 10 men in the 44th minute, and CF Montreal were never able to capitalize on that. Montreal did create chances, but just weren’t able to beat Brad Stuver.
First half:
Pretty uneventful first 20 mins with the best chance going to Sebastián Driussi who put his shot just wide in the 19th minute
In the 28th minute CF Montreal should’ve been in front but Kei Kamara somehow couldn’t find a way past Austin keeper Brad Stuver.
In the 44th minute, Daniel Pareira would be booked for the second time for a very silly challenge and Austin would go down to 10 men right before the half.
Second half:
Kamara would have another glorious chance in the 53rd minute but again Stuver would come up big for his side. A shot im sure Kamara would like to have back as it was a very tame effort.
Against the run of play, Diego Fagundez would smash a shot off the post. Luckily for Montreal, it didn’t go in the back of the net.
It would be for CF Montreal striker Maxi Urruti who would open the scoring for Austin FC with a clever dink over Sebastian Breza in the 67th minute.
Romell Quioto would get a chance in the 85th minute to tie the game, but couldn’t sort out his feet and the chance was cleared off the line.
The 10 man Austin FC would be able to hold on for the 1-0 win.
On a different day, this could’ve been a 3-1, maybe even 4-1 scoreline in favour of CF Montreal, the strikers forgot their scoring boots Saturday at Stade Saputo. CF Montreal have a big semi-final game in the Canadian Championship against Toronto FC on Wednesday, before returning to MLS action on Saturday against Charlotte.
