AEW Dynamite Preview: AEW Championship Title Picture Unclear…

It was announced on Friday night Rampage, that AEW champion, CM Punk would have to step away for a few months due to injury. This leaves the title picture for Forbidden Door up in the air. But by the end of this upcoming Dynamite we should have a better idea. We will also have a preview of Forbidden Door in a special singles match up as well.

Battle Royale for 1# contenders spot

This will be step one for a lot of wrestlers on the roster to become #1 contender for the interim AEW championship. Because of the CM Punk injury, AEW has decided to go with a battle royale to give a ton of members on the roster the chance to earn themselves a shot at the title. Whoever wins this battle royale will find themselves in the main event of this Dynamite.

I think the winner of this battle royale should be Wardlow. I think the injury to CM Punk is very unfortunate, and comes at a horrible time, but this could an opportunity to cash in on Wardlow’s momentum.

Battle Royale Winner vs Jon Moxley

Whoever the winner of the battle royale is, they will go on to face Jon Moxley in a singles match at the end of the night. I think this makes sense, as Moxley is a former AEW champion, has ties in New Japan, and is currently ranked #1 in the AEW rankings.

I think Moxley will eventually win this mini tournament if you want to call it that, because NJPW are a fan of Moxley, and it could give us the match of Mox vs Hiroshi Tanahashi at Forbidden Door.

However, that’s not guaranteed either. Tanahashi will face Hirooki Goto at NJPW’s Dominion on June 12th, to see who will be on the NJPW side challenging for the Interim AEW championship.

It may be a little confusing, but both AEW and NJPW are doing their best to deal with all these sudden injuries.

Hangman Page vs David Finlay

We’ll be getting a taste of AEW vs NJPW again Wednesday night when former AEW champion Hangman Page takes on NJPW’s David Finlay. This will be a very interesting match that I expect to go about 10-15 minutes with Hangman getting the win.

This was announced on last week’s show, but now with the battle royale, I not sure if this match will go on as scheduled. I say this, because it would be weird for Hangman to not be included in the battle royale, as he was the last champion before Punk.

That’s all we know of AEW Dynamite for the moment, but stay tuned for more info on the match card coming soon!

All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
