CF Montreal Back to Winning Ways After Shoot Out With FC Cincinnati

This was a very exciting game to watch for any soccer fans not just CF Montreal fans, with a total of 7 goals in this one. Wilfred Nancy will be happy with how his team attacked but conceding 3 he won’t be thrilled with. But CF Montreal picked up 3 points, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters.

First Half:

FC Cincinnati opened the scoring in this game in the 12th minute off a corner. Junior Moreno would volley home a header that was going wide from close range to put the Orange and Blue up 1-0.

9 minutes later, CF Montreal would equalize the game from a corner of their own. It was very similar to the Cincinnati goal as Kamal Miller’s header was going wide, but Joel Waterman got to it first and tapped it in from close range.

Dominique Badji came close to giving FC Cincinnati the lead back in the 40th minute, but his shot was pushed just wide of the far post by Sebastian Breza.

Right before the stroke of halftime, Romell Quioto would score one of the scrappiest goals you’ll ever see. In the 49th minute, Joaquin Torres played a great ball with the outside of his boot to find Quioto. Cincinnati looked to have dealt with the issue but could never get a proper clearance in, and Quioto basically walked the ball into the back of the net. 2-1 CF Montreal.

Second Half:

CF Montreal would make it 3 very early into the second half. In the 46th minute, Mathieu Choinière would connect on a perfectly placed touch from Kei Kamara, and Choinière volleyed it past the keeper to make it 3-1.

FC Cincinnati pulled 1 back only 5 minutes later in the 51th. Luciano Acosta found himself in a little bit of space on the left flank and very patiently waited for Álvaro Barreal to make a good run before putting the ball past Breza to make it 3-2.

4 minutes later, CFM would be on the attack again, when Ahmed Hamdi would try to cross the ball but it struck the arm of a FC Cincinnati defender, and after a VAR check CF Montreal were awarded a PK. Romell Quioto would step up to take the penalty and Roman Celentano came very close to saving, but luckily for CFM, it just snuck by to make it 4-2.

The scoring wouldn’t stop there, as Júnior Moreno would score a second of the night in the 63rd minute. It was great ball movement from Cincinnati that found Moreno on the edge of the area, and Moreno placed his shot perfectly into the top corner.

The action didn’t stop, but the chances weren’t as good for the rest of the game. Breza was forced to make a couple of saves, but CF Montreal were able to see out the rest of the game and take it 4-3.

It was great offensive display from both teams, and thankfully Montreal are back in the win column. This win also has CFM in 3rd in the east, only 3 points back of 1st place. This game also saw a very rare stat in soccer. Montreal actually scored their 2nd goal later in the game than their 3rd goal with Quioto scoring the second goal Montreal in the 49th minute, while at the restart of the second half, Choinière scored the 3rd goal in the 46th. Not too often you see that happen.

There’s now a little break for CF Montreal as their next game against Austin FC is only on June 18th.
