CF Montreal dropped their second game in four days after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Real Salt Lake. CFM took a very early lead thanks to Dorde Mihailovic, but an underwhelming second half saw Real score twice and steal 3 points on the road.
First Half:
CF Montreal was on the board in the 1st minute. Joaquin Torres made a nifty play to find Ahmed Hamdy who squared a ball to Dorde Mihailovic who scored his 7th goal of the season.
CFM looked to double their lead in the 16th minute, when Romell quioto found himself in on goal, and made no mistake. Unfortunately for the Montreal striker, he was deemed offside and the goal was ruled out.
Real Salt Lake’s best chance came in the final moments of the first half when Bobby Wood found himself all alone six yards out but Sebastian Breza came up with a massive save to keep the game 1-0 going into the second half.
Second Half:
Real Salt Lake would level this game early in the second half. In the 54th minute, Justin Glad wold connect with a header off of a corner and it would get by everyone and find the back of the net.
12 minutes later, Real would take the lead. Serigo Cordova would find himself alone up front, and from a very sharp angle, would blast the ball past Breza. I think the CF Montreal keeper would expect himself to do a bit better on a chance like that. 2-1 Real.
CF Montreal wouldn’t have any great chances in the second half, and saw this one end in a 2-1 loss.
A second straight 2-1 defeat for CF Montreal, has them sitting in 4th place in the east, 4 points back of the Philadelphia Union. CF Montreal’s next game is against Forge FC in Canadian Championship Quarter-finals matchup on Wednesday.
