Huge Win Has CF Montreal Unbeaten in 8 Straight

It was an all around outstanding performance by CF Montreal yesterday, as they dominated from start to finish. CF Montreal out possessed, out chanced and out shot (20 to 2) Orlando City on Saturday and comfortably extended their unbeaten streak to 8 games. It was a nice measure of revenge for Montreal, as it was Orlando City who beat them on decision day last year to unsure that CF Montreal missed the playoffs.

First Half:

CF Montreal could’ve opened the scoring early in this one, when Alistair Johnston crossed a beautiful ball into the six yard box but Romell Quioto’s header went just over the crossbar in the 6th minute.

Lassi Lappalainen had the next chance for Montreal as Dorde Mihailovic’s pass somehow got through to the CF Montreal winger but Pedro Gallese came up with a big save in the 8th Minute.

CFM finally got their well deserved goal in the 21st Minute. Off a corner, the ball would eventually fall to Joel Waterman who scored his first goal of his career. It was initially ruled offside, but after a VAR check, the goal counted. 1-0 CF Montreal.

It should’ve been two in the 36th minute, when Quioto played a wonderful low cross from winger to winger to find Lappalainen who cut the ball back across his defender, but somehow put his shot wide of the target from 7 yards out.

Second Half:

CF Montreal would make it 2-0 early into the second half. A great counter attack that was started by Joaquin Torres lead to a cross from Alistair Johnston that found Mihailovic back post for his 5th goal of the season.

Orlando City would get one back off a corner in the 72nd minute. Joao Moutinho would rise the highest and his header from close range flew by Sebastian Breza to make it 2-1.

CF Montreal would have their 2 goal lead restored less than ten minutes later. Zachary Brault-Guillard who came on as a sub, found Joaquin Torres in the centre of the area with a low cross. Torres would neatly spin away from his defender and tuck the ball into the far corner to make it 3-1 in the 81st.

Brault-Guillard wasn’t done there, as 3 minutes later he would seal this one for CF Montreal. He  would steal the ball away from Orlando FC after a heavy touch. He then played a quick one-two with Torres, and then Brault-Guillard hit a laser from a very tough angle that beat Gallese and had Montreal up 3 goals.

This was easily the best game of the season for CF Montreal. Joaquin Torres had his best game of the season, getting a goal and an assist. There was the issue of Alistair Johnston leaving due to injury, so we will need to keep an eye on that.

Montreal’s next game is Saturday May 14th away to Charlotte.
