It’s yet another absolutely stacked card for Dynamite this week, and Tony Khan has already announced 5 big matches! We’ll be getting a huge Philly street fight, a TNT title ladder match, a tag team will face off in singles action against each other for a spot in the Owen Cup, a big 10-man tag team match, and MJF has his next challenge for Wardlow.
Hikaru Shida vs Serena Deeb – Philly Street Fight
This is a feud that has been going on for a while, but has had a lot of “start and stop” to it’s momentum. Hikaru Shida had to go back to Japan for a while, so in their last match, Serena Deeb took out Shida’s leg to write her off TV for a while. But now Shida is back and we’re getting what is sure to be a brutal match.
Hikaru Shida and Serena Deeb have faced off against each other 4 times in AEW and they are tied with 2 wins each. In this match, we should have one conclusive winner. I’ve enjoyed all 4 of the previous matches, and I think adding the NO DQ stipulation to this one, will be the cherry on top of this rivalry.
I have no worries that Shida and Deeb will put on a great match, I’m just hoping that AEW give this enough time, and more specifically the main event slot. It’s arguably the most intense rivalry in the whole women’s division, and it’s deserving of the main event spot. It’s also the match on the card with the least predictable outcome as it makes sense to have either woman win here.
I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Hikaru Shida wins here and joins the Blackpool Combat Club. Shida is already one of the hardest hitting women in the division, and I think it would be a nice swerve, because a lot of people suspect Deeb might be joining that club.
Dax Harwood vs Cash Wheeler – Owen Hart Tournament Qualifier
This is a match that caught my eye right away when it was announced. And it’s the kind of booking that led to Tony Khan winning booker of the year in 2021. FTR are arguably the best tag team in the world right now, so let’s pit them against each other for a singles tournament.
Most of the time, this would be a horrible idea. But in this instance, it actually makes a lot of sense. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler have changed up their ways recently, turning from heels to faces, so a one-on-one match will make sense as in a good ol’ clean fight where the best man wins.
The other thing that makes this match up so cool, is that both members of FTR are huge Owen and Bret Hart fans. So I’m sure this means the world to both of them to have a shot to qualify. This is another hard match to call, but I’ll go with Cash on this occasion because we’ve seen more singles matches out of Dax, so this could be a chance for Cash to showcase his in-ring work outside of tag team wrestling.
Sammy Guevara (C) vs Scorpio Sky – TNT Title Ladder Match
The segment for this match last week felt sort of rushed, when Sammy Guevara’s music started playing and he abruptly said “ladder match next week bitch!”. We know how good Sammy is in ladder matches, so I’m complaining how we got here.
What is interesting, is how quickly TK decided to take the belt off of Scorpio Sky. Sky only had the belt for a couple of weeks before dropping it back to Sammy. So now I’m wondering could Scorpio actually win here?
I think that Sammy will retain in this match, and it’ll be the proper start to his run as a heel now. And I expect Tay Conti to get involved in this one as well.
The two other matches announced for this week are a battle of the big boys, when Lance Archer collides with Wardlow, and the Undisputed Elite take on the team of Dante Martin, Lee Johnson, Brock Anderson, and the Varsity Blondes!
All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
