There is only 3 matches announced for St Patrick’s Day Slam, but boy are they all huge matches. We have the new TNT champion putting his title on the line already against one of the most dominant forces in AEW. Thunder Rosa is out for revenge and the AEW women’s title, and a huge 6-man tag.
Britt Baker (C) vs Thunder Rosa – Steel Cage AEW Women’s Title Match
This is a match that a lot of people predicted after how much interference there was at Revolution. Rebel got WAY to involved in the match, and it was comical that she wasn’t ejected. Thunder Rosa got a visual pinfall and submission out of the champ, but the ref missed both spots because of interference. Britt Baker was able to retain at the PPV, but tonight she might not be so lucky.
Because of all the interference, this title match will be held in a steel cage. A gimmick match designed exactly for feuds and moments like this. Thunder Rosa is deserving of a rematch after all those distractions, and I think she’ll take advantage of the cage match stipulation.
It’s also really cool to have this match on this card, as it marks the one year anniversary from the amazing lights out match that Rosa and Baker had at last year’s St Patrick’s Day Slam. I see Thunder Rosa becoming new AEW women’s champion.
Scorpio Sky (C) vs Wardlow – TNT Title Match
I was shocked last week when we saw Scorpio Sky defeat Sammy Guevara for the TNT title, but I have to say, I’m not mad about it. It’s about time that something finally came of “the men of the year” and Dan Lambert partnership, and I’m happy Sky picked up the win. His first test though may be his downfall.
Wardlow has been outright dominant for basically his entire AEW run so far. One of the loudest pops from Revolution was Wardlow not giving MJF the diamond ring. That pretty much solidified his face turn, and the crowd loved it. He’s looking to set off on his own now and start by winning the TNT championship.
Unfortunately for Wardlow, I see MJF costing him this match. Maxwell is not known for letting things go, and he most certainly won’t let Wardlow off the hook. MJF isn’t the only one Wardlow will have to deal with as most likely Dan Lambert will be ringside, and maybe even Ethan Page. This will most likely see a screwy finish, and I see Scorpio Sky retaining. The bigger feud to build here is the MJF/ Wardlow feud anyway.
Adam Cole & reDRagon vs Hangman Page (C) & Jurassic Express (C)
After Hangman Page defeated Dartin Martin in a very fun match for the AEW title last week, Adam Cole came out and said he’s not through with the Hangman. He called his win a fluke, and then challenged him to a 6-man tag match, eluding he would team up with Hangman’s former buddies, the Young Bucks. Cole would ultimately choose Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish to be his partners, while Hangman chose Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.
While Jurassic Express is a great choice for tag team partners, it left the Dark Order feeling a little left out, so it continues that story as well. While Cole dropping major hints he’d choose the Young Bucks, then not picking them, continues that story as well. Multi-layer story telling right here.
I’m torn on who to pick in this match, as you never want your champions losing a match, never mind 3 at one time, but it looks like Cole and reDragons are next in line for these titles. I’m going to lean towards Cole’s team here to pick up the win. That way Hangman will feel like he has to prove himself again to Adam Cole.
All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
