AEW Revolution Preview!

This is arguably one of the biggest cards that AEW have ever given us, with a ton of big names in big time feuds. There will be 4 title matches on the card, including the first time the TBS championship will be defended on a PPV. Two major one-on-one singles matches, a huge trios match included a the Icon Sting, and of course the Dog Collar match which is going to be crazy.

Hangman Page (C) vs Adam Cole – AEW Title Match

This is a match I’ve been looking forward to since Adam Cole made his claim to be next in line for the AEW championship. Like I’ve mentioned in previous articles, my favourite Hangman Page storylines involve him mixed up with the Elite. It first started with Hangman wanting out of the Elite, then feuding with the Young Bucks, then Kenny Omega, and now it’s Adam Cole’s turn Bay Bay!

Adam Cole got the upper hand on Hangman on this past episode of Dynamite. Cole scored the pinfall win over Alex Reynolds, before reDRagon duck taped Hangman to the ropes to watch the former Undisputed Era take out Reynolds and John Silver. This is a tactic used frequently against Hangman to try and make him feel like he’s letting down his friends. Cole ended the show by super kicking Hangman a couple of times and standing tall.

It’s been a well told story up to this point, I just wish it would’ve been a little longer. I’m just happy AEW gave Hangman more promo time, because you need that for him to connect with the audience. And he showed he still has the crowd behind him, even going up against a huge fan-favourite in Adam Cole.

A lot of people have Hangman Page winning here, but I’m going to go Adam Cole. My reasoning for this, is the top heel in AEW is MJF, and if he loses to CM Punk, there won’t really be a challenger for a face champion. I think Cole winning is a long shot, but I just see more of an opportunity for a heel champion right now.

CM Punk vs MJF – Dog Collar Match

This is going to be an absolutely brutal match. Dog Collar matches usually are saved for big feuds, and that’s exactly what we have here. A couple of weeks ago CM Punk won a match with Jon Moxley that give him the chance to choose the time and place for his rematch with MJF. He chose Revolution, and he chose a match that is not for the feint of heart.

This story has been told really well. We all know that MJF is capable of cutting a very good promo, but the one he did two weeks ago may have been his best work. He went on to say that the reason he is the way he is, is because CM Punk turned his back on the fans, and he turned his back on MJF when he left wrestling. It was a very real and very emotional promo that had Dave Meltzer saying it was one of the best in the last 20 years.

As it turns out, it looks like it was all a ploy to have CM Punk lower his guard, so MJF can capitalize on Punk’s error in judgment. This past Dynamite we saw a ruthless beatdown handed out by MJF, that saw Punk laying in a pool of his own blood. This is how you build a story.

This is a match that I can see going either way. I think it’ll be CM Punk who gets his revenged, but MJF will earn his respect.

Britt Baker (C) vs Thunder Rosa – AEW Women’s Title Match

This has been a rivalry that has been brewing for a long time now. Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa had a feud that wasn’t about the title and it led to that fantastic lights out match between the two. The lights out match was widely regarded as the women’s match of the year, and really elevated both women’s careers. In a strange twist, Thunder Rosa won the match, but it was Britt Baker who got more over with the AEW audience. And it has led to her winning her first AEW championship from Hikaru Shida at Double or Nothing.

Baker has gone on to the defend the title on 6 occasion since then, and has been running the division with the help of Rebel and Jamie Hayter. But with some tension building between Hayter and Baker over the last few months, and the fact that Thunder Rosa scored a pinfall win over Baker on Dynamite, is this the time that Britt drops the title?

I’m taking Thunder Rosa in this match, as it’s always seemed destined that it would be Rosa who would be the one to dethrone Britt when the time came.
