AEW Dynamite Preview: House of Black Debuts, Return of Cody Rhodes!

It’s unusual for AEW to announce this much of the card before the show, but we have a ton to cover in this week’s Dynamite preview. We already have five announced matches for this week, including the debut of the House of Black, Sting and Darby take the 1# ranked tag team, a very rare mixed tag team match, Serena Deeb takes on a promising prospect, and MJF has his next challenge for CM Punk. We also got the news that Cody Rhodes will be making his return to AEW, and maybe we’ll get a better picture of what’s next for the TNT championship.

Malakai Black & Brody King vs The Varsity Blonds

We finally saw the debut of Brody King in AEW, and tonight we get to see the big man in his first match. Last week, we saw a very strange image of three faces beating down the single heel, the lights went out for the second time, and Brody King showed up to help Malakai Black. King showed his dominance by taking out everyone. Two of the three people he took out, were the Brian Pillman Jr, and Griff Garrison. And that is basically the reasoning for this match.

I can’t see the Varsity Blonds winning here, as Brody King is making his debut, and Malakai Black has been very protected since his arrival in AEW. I expect this one to be over pretty quick, and for the House of Black to pick up their first win.

I also don’t think we’re done seeing the recruitment of the House of Black. I think Julia Hart might be the next to join, with maybe even PAC coming on board next. This is a very cool story so far, and I love what Malakai has done with his creative freedom.

Britt Baker (C) & Adam Cole vs Kris Statlander & Orange Cassidy – Mixed Tag Match

On this episode of Dynamite, we’re are getting the rarely used mix tag match, and it’s some of the biggest stars in the company competing in this match. Orange Cassidy has been the target of Adam Cole for the last few weeks, and this is a very cool way for that feud to continue and still feel fresh. The involvement of Britt Baker and Kris Statlander seemed like a good fit because it makes sense for them to be involved, but I think we may have an indication of who the next challenger could be for the AEW Women’s championship.

I think this matchup is a 50/50 split, and with how many people are involved in the Elite and the Best Friends, I expect a lot of interference in this match. The reason why I am leaning towards the Cassidy/ Statlander team, is because I think if they win, it’ll present a strong case for Stat getting a future title match.

CM Punk vs Shawn Spears

In the latest chapter of the MJF and CM Punk saga, we have Punk taking on another member of the Pinnacle, in “the Chairman” Shawn Spears. As soon as MJF came out last week, and said “I going to give you the match you all want to see”, it was 100% clear it wasn’t going to be him, but someone from his group.

The longer that AEW go with this feud of MJF and CM Punk, without having the two physically touch each, the bigger this match is going to seem. I think the clear winner here will be CM Punk. It would be a massive mis-step to me to have Wardlow lose, but then have Shawn Spears win.

We also have two other scheduled matches for this week’s show. Sting and Darby Allin will take on 1# ranked the Acclaimed, and Serena Deeb will take on Skye Blue. We will also have the return of Cody Rhodes, and I hope with this, comes the explanation of when the TNT title match between him and Sammy Guevara will happen.

All this and so much more can be seen on TBS (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
