AEW Dynamite Preview: Go Home Show for Full Gear!

With most of the card set for this Saturday’s PPV, the point of this episode will be to tie up any loose ends, build some extra heat, and maybe even add a match or two to the already stacked card. With all that’s going on for Full Gear, we still have a ton to watch tonight. Lio Rush will be making his in-ring debut for AEW, we have a big 6-woman tag match, Bryan Danielson will be taking on a New Japan talent, and the AEW World Championship contract signing will take place.

All that and so much more, and here is where we break it all down.

Britt Baker (C), Jamie Hayter & Rebel vs Tay Conti, Anna Jay & Thunder Rosa – 6-Woman Tag

This is a match that has implications on both the AEW women’s championship, and the TBS title tournament. Tay Conti will be getter her second chance to become the AEW champion this Saturday, when she takes on Britt Baker. And over in the the quarter-finals of the TBS tournament, we’ll be getting Jamie Hayter (who just knocked out Anna Jay) taking on one of the four women who received a first round bye, Thunder Rosa

I’m happy to see a multi-women tag match getting time on Dynamite, and this match makes sense. It covers multiple feuds at once, and really whatever the outcome of this match is, it shouldn’t hurt the momentum going forward in the tournament, and at Full Gear.

I expect this match to go one of two ways, Baker’s team either cheats to get the win, or Rebel gets stuck in the ring with all the babyfaces, and she eats the pin.

Dante Martin & Lio Rush vs Matt Sydal & Lee Moriarty

This is a match we were supposed to get a couple weeks ago, but an injury to Matt Sydal’s brother, Mike, meant this match was delayed. We are now getting the match, but with Lee Moriarty replacing the injured Sydal. Moriarty is someone to keep an eye on for the future of AEW, and it’s great to see him get a shot on Dynamite so quickly.

Speaking of the future of AEW, Dante Martin has really developed a lot since joining the singles division, but now he returns to the tag team scene, this time with the debuting Lio Rush rather than his brother, Darius. It’s still undetermined wether or not Rush is in this to actually take Dante to the next level, or is he just using the youngster for his own personal benefit. That is what makes Lio’s character so interesting at the moment. In any case, this will be the first in-ring action for Rush on Dynamite, and I expect him and Dante to pick up the win.

Bryan Danielson vs Rocky Romero

This is a match that is completely out of the blue, and I love it! Nothing keeps things fresh like match ups that no one sees coming, and this is one of those matches. When Bryan Danielson came to AEW, one of the reasons for his switch from WWE, was the wide array of talent that Bryan has the chance to work with. Thanks to Tony Khan, and the forbidden door, tonight on Dynamite, we have another match we thought we’d never see.

This will be the first match for Rocky Romero in AEW, since he picked up a win against J.D Drake back in May on Dark Elevation. No offence to Drake, but the quality of opponent for Rocky has increased dramatically. This is actually going to be the second time that these two men have faced each other one-on-one, but you have to go all the way back to 2005 in Ring of Honor. Safe to say, both these guys have grown a lot since then.

I understand some people might not like the idea of a match with no storyline behind it, but when it’s a match like this, where it’s 2 names that haven’t crossed paths in decades, it’s pretty cool to think it’s even happening. With Bryan Danielson already in the finals of the AEW Title Eliminator Tournament, you expect BD to win this one clean.

There is another announced match for tonight’s show, and it has PAC taking on Dax Harwood in singles action, and we also have the contract signing between Kenny Omega and Hangman Page. All this, and then there’s still a live Rampage on Friday, and then Full Gear on Saturday. It’s a very busy next 4 days for All Elite Wrestling.

All this and so much more can be seen on TNT (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
