AEW Dynamite Preview: Fight for the Fallen!

After the two amazing Fyter Fest nights, the action is far from slowing down. Without skipping a beat, we already have another PPV quality show coming our way in Fight for the Fallen. We have 5 matches announced for tonight’s show, and a teased “major” announcement from Tony Khan. We have a big tag team match between two of the best teams in the world, a hardcore legend makes his debut, a big 6-man tag match, the new IWGP US champion puts his title on the line, and the huge 10-man elimination tag match.

All that and so much more, and here is where we’ll break it all down.

The Elite vs Hangman Page & The Dark Order – 5 on 5 Elimination Match

The Hangman/ Kenny Omega story is my favourite thing in wrestling right now. The amount of layers and depth in this story is absolutely fantastic, and tonight we get the next chapter. There is a lot riding on this match as well, and we might get official #1 contenders for not just the AEW championship, but the #1 contenders for the AEW tag team championships as well.

It’s hard to find a more over wrestler right now than Hangman Page. He has really connected with the audience, and there is no one the AEW crowd want to see succeed more than Hangman. Having Hangman come together with the Dark Order is a perfect storm. The Dark Order have become the lovable bunch of losers who are easy to get behind, and want to see them win. More importantly, even when Hangman doesn’t believe in himself, the Dark Order keeps backing him up, and you can slowly see Page gaining confidence.

In the other corner, we’ll the AEW champion, Kenny Omega, tag team champions, the Young Bucks, and the Impact tag team champions, the Good Brothers. This really does seem like an all-star team that’s coming together to dismantle the little guys. Kenny and the Bucks in particular will be hard to knock off, as they have been next level good since their heel turn.

So if Page and the Dark Order win, Hangman gets a shot at Kenny, while Silver and Reynolds get a title match against the Bucks. If the Elite win, those three can’t challenge for the titles. There’s so much riding on this match, and it’s going to be a REALLY interesting match. For me, it what world is Hangman not getting to Kenny at All Out, but that means we’ll have to see Kenny and the Bucks get eliminated. I have the team of Hangman and the Dark Order winning here, I just don’t know how. The only thing I hope is for certain, is that this match is given at minimum, the final 30 minutes of the show.

Chris Jericho vs Nick Gage – No Rules Match

This just seems like the most ridiculous match up you’ll ever see. I have been a wrestling fan for about 20 years, and I’d NEVER of thought I’d be watching Chris Jericho vs Nick Gage. This is one of the most unique match ups you’ll ever witness, and you just have to be happy with AEW willing to work with other companies to give us this match.

For those of you who don’t know who Nick Gage is, he is a mainstay for Game Changer Wrestling. He was the champion up until last Saturday, where he was screwed out of the championship by Matt Cardona (another crazy match up, go check that out if you can). Gage is one of the realest guys in the business, and when he says he’d die in the ring, he’s not lying…It almost happened! Gage will most certainly bring his hardcore style with him tonight, and Jericho will have to watch out for Gage’s pizza cutter and other weapons.

This will be the second labour of Jericho, and it’ll be interesting to see how Jericho will deal with the hardcore style of Gage. Just like last week’s prediction, I can’t see Chris Jericho losing in these 5 labour matches, but I feel that Gage has gone through enough in his career that he should be protected in loss.

Santana & Ortiz vs FTR

This is the one match on the card I think is flying under the radar. This is a huge tag team match that has arguably two of the five best tag teams in the world going to head-to-head in what is sure to be a great match.

There has been some controversy in the build up to this match with some people thinking that the promo’s haven’t been shot well. While there is some truth to that, I think the passion in which Santana delivers his message makes up for that and then some. FTR and Proud and Powerful won’t need to deliver on promos tonight, as the in-ring work is sure to be fantastic.

My only concern with this match is again, the timing. This card is stacked, and assuming a big chunk of the tv time goes to the 5 on 5 match, I’m hoping this match isn’t cut short due to lack of time. I hope we see Santana and Ortiz win this one, and put themselves in line for a tag team title match in the near future.

We’ll also have a big 6-man tag match that will see Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Jungle Boy take on Private Party, and Angelico from the H.F.O. Lance Archer will also be putting his newly won IWGP US title on the line against NJPW competitor, Hikuleo. There will be a celebration for Ricky Starks, and last but not least, Tony Khan has promised a “major announcement” regarding a new live event.

All this and so much more can be seen on TNT (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
