Tonight’s Dynamite officially marks the end of the “Pandemic Era” for All Elite Wrestling as they’ll be on the road in Miami for Road Rager! This looks like it’s going to be a crazy show, as AEW have really stacked the card for their first show back on the road. We already have five matches announced, headlined by the Tag Team titles being defended in a street fight. We’ll also have a major star making his in-ring debut, a strap match, a big 6-man tag, and the very rare mixed tag match all scheduled for tonight.
All this and so much more, and here is where we’ll break it down.
Young Bucks (C) vs Penta El Zero Miedo & Eddie Kingston – Tag Team Title Match Street Fight
As we saw on last week’s Dynamite, Penta and Eddie were victorious over the tag team champions, and earned themselves a shot at the title tonight. These four men have to up their game if they want to compete with last week’s match, as it was one of the tag team matches of the year so far.
Is there any team right now that’s generating more heat than the Young Bucks? Ever since their full on heel turn, they’ve been on fire. Last week seeing them lose a tag team match is something we haven’t seen in a while, as you have to go back to early 2020 for their last two-on-two loss. I think we’ll see the Young Bucks retain their championships tonight, probably because of the added stipulation…
It was announced a couple days ago by Tony Khan that this match would now be a street fight, and I think this definitely benefits the Young Bucks. We’ve seen all the interference attempts when we had rules, imagine all the shenanigans they’re going to try to pull with no rules. I do want to see gold around the waists of both Kingston and Penta in the future, just not right now. I expect the Bucks to win here, and most certainly will have a screwy finish.
Andrade El Idolo vs Matt Sydal
This is a match I’ve been looking forward to since Andrade El Idolo made his shocking debut with Vickie Guerrero a little over a month ago. I am a huge fan of his in-ring work, and all the matches he had in NXT as the champion, but it was an absolute waste when he was called up to the main roster in WWE. I think that WWE’s loss is AEW’s gain, as they have one of the most talented men in professional wrestling, in my opinion, now on their roster.
I think the choice of putting Andrade up against Matt Sydal in his first match is a stroke of genius. Matt Sydal is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the world, and has been putting together some great matches in AEW. Sydal was pretty one dimensional early in his career, but now has gotten a lot better all around, that is helping him put together good matches with all types of wrestling styles.
Some people think that Andrade’s debut has been a bit underwhelming so far, but as AEW has showed us with Miro, just wait and give them time to develop the story. I think this match will kickstart the run for Andrade, as the recipe for success is here with two fantastic wrestlers pitted against each other. Because this is such a stacked show, it might not get the most time, but this match could potentially steal the show.
Cody Rhodes vs QT Marshall – Strap Match
So the one thing we know by now, is that Cody Rhodes loves his old school gimmick matches. Him and his brother Dustin have been in some of the best gimmick matches so far in AEW’s short history, Cody’s Dog Collar match with the Late Brodie Lee comes to mind right away. Tonight will have another old school match coming our way, with Cody taking on former friend QT Marshall in a strap match.
I’m not to sure which direction AEW are going in with this rivalry, with both the Nightmare Family and the Factory trading wins and losses. Some people are tired of this feud, but they have to admit, that a lot of the young talent on the AEW roster are being showcased in this rivalry. This could be the last match between the two factions, as it has leader vs leader going one-on-one in what is sure to be a brutal match. I am hoping that Cody Rhodes wins this match and that both factions go their separate ways and start fresh new feuds in AEW.
We also have two other matches that have been announced for Road Rager, and one of them is a big 6-man tag match between Jake Hager, Santana, and Ortiz of Inner Circle taking on Wardlow, and FTR from the Pinnacle, in what is sure to be a great match. The other match is a mixed tag match between The Blade and the Bunny taking on crowd favourites Kris Statlander and Orange Cassidy. Also announced for Dynamite, is a face-off between MJF and Chris Jericho to see what are MJF’s terms for Jericho to get another one-on-one match with him.
All this and so much more can be seen on TNT (TSN in Canada) every Wednesday night at 8PM EST.
