The week’s edition of Dynamite will take place on Saturday, and AEW have a huge match planned to main event the show. As of right now, only 2 matches have been announced, and a teased segment by Matt Hardy on the last episode of BTE. We have Hangman Page going up against another member of Team Taz, and Jungle Boy has the biggest opportunity of his life in the main event.
Kenny Omega (C) vs Jungle Boy – AEW Championship Match
In case you haven’t been paying any attention to what’s going on in the world of professional wrestling, Kenny Omega is really, REALLY good. Ever since winning the AEW championship from Jon Moxley at Winter is Coming in early December, The Cleaner has been on fire. Kenny Omega has become the “belt collector”, as he is the current AEW, AAA, and Impact champion. He is dominating headlines across multiple promotions, and with Don Callis by his side, it doesn’t look like he’s ready to slow down at all.
The Challenger on Saturday night is the 24 year old Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy earned his opportunity at the champion when he won the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing. That match came down to Jungle Boy and Christian Cage, and to many people’s surprise, it was the youngster who came out on top. We have to think Christian will get a title shot at some point, but I think it was the right choice in this situation to go with Jungle Boy.
Jungle Boy’s biggest singles match to date has been his match on Dynamite against Chris Jericho, which went to a 10 minute draw…safe to say that the stakes are WAY higher in this match.
I think that Jungle Boy’s in-ring ability is way higher than it should be for someone is only 24 years old, but he does need to work on his charisma. Again, he is so young, and in time, I think he’ll grow more confident in not just his talent, but his character as well. This is the reason I think that Kenny Omega will win on Saturday in what will no doubt be a phenomenal match.
Hangman Page vs Powerhouse Hobbs
This is a match made from the tag match from couple weeks ago that saw Brian Cage leave mid match, which led to Hangman and Preston “10” Vance picking up the win. Powerhouse Hobbs still had a good showing even in the loss, and Taz decided to point that out when he requested the rematch. It was a good point, and being the good babyface that Hangman Page is, he accepted the match, and here we are.
I think AEW has done a great job keeping Hangman Page involved in big matches, but also keeping him away from Kenny Omega. Hangman is 14-1 this year, but that lost came very strategically to have him lose his #1 ranking right before the PPV. A lot of people have predicted that when Kenny Omega’s title reign comes to an end, it’ll be to Hangman Page. Whenever Hangman is asked about the AEW champion, he always re-directs the question. This is one of my favourite long term storylines in all pro wrestling right now.
In the meantime, we’ll be getting a good match between Hangman and Hobbs. I think that Hangman will come out victorious in this one, and I’m wondering if we’ll get any more development in Brian Cage officially leaving Team Taz.
Matt Hardy has also said he’d cut a check to Christian Cage on Dynamite if he just retires, but something tells me he won’t take the money…This Saturday will mark the last week that Dynamite is not in it’s normal time slot of 8PM on Wednesday, which is great news for the company, as the ratings were really taking a hit being so late and on the weekend.
All this and so much more can be seen on TNT (TSN in Canada) at a special day and time of Saturday at 8PM.
