AEW Dynamite Preview: Enemies Become Allies?

Last week’s edition of Dynamite had A LOT going on, presumably because the it was the show after the PPV, and AEW want to set up new storylines, but I feel like somethings didn’t get enough time. The thing that comes to mind right away was the debut of Andrade – it was a shock debut that I would’ve probably saved for the main event slot instead of thrown in the middle of the episode. In any case, I’m still really excited he arrived in AEW and hopefully Friday night we’ll see more of him. What we will see for sure is a big 6-man tag match featuring the tag team champions, the TNT title will be on the line, and Team Taz will take on Hangman Page and a member from the Dark Order.

All that and so much more, and here is where we’ll break it all down.

Young Bucks (C) & Brandon Cutler vs Pac, Penta El Zero Miedo & Eddie Kingston

This is a match I’m really looking forward to because AEW did something that is rare in the world of wrestling – Continuity in their booking! The fact that Eddie Kingston, Pac, and Penta are all “good guys”, it makes sense that they’re all on the same team. However, I LOVE the fact that AEW didn’t just forget that earlier in the year, Kingston was in a feud with Death Triangle. Kingston addressed it backstage on last week’s show when he said “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” basically meaning, that they don’t have to like each other, but they’ll co-exist to take care of their common problem.

What is that common problem? Well it’s the tag team champions, the Young Bucks of course. At Double or Nothing, the Young Bucks took out Jon Moxley “indefinitely” with a series of BTE triggers, and they looked to do the same to Penta last week before Kingston made the save. The Young Bucks were victorious last week against Pac and Penta, and big thanks go to Brandon Cutler who knocked PAC off the top rope, handing the win to the Bucks. Now Cutler will officially be involved in the match, and that might be trouble for him.

I think this match can go one of two ways, either Kingston and Pac can’t work together and it cost their team the match, or somebody pins Brandon Cutler. One thing is for sure, this will be 15-20 minutes of non-stop actions!

Miro (C) vs Evil Uno – TNT Title Match

Miro is coming off a huge win at Double or Nothing against Lance Archer, when he made the Murderhawk pass out with the game over. This is the version of Miro that everyone wanted to see, and now it looks like we have one of the most dominating forces in wrestling.

His opponent Friday night is Evil Uno from the Dark Order. Uno has been primarily a tag team wrestler since he and Stu Grayson joined AEW just over two years ago, but tonight he has a huge opportunity at a singles belt. Evil Uno is one of the most underrated wrestlers on the roster, but unfortunately, I don’t think he stands much of a chance against his opponent in this match.

I think that Miro is in line for a long, LONG title run and don’t think that the Dark Order member will threaten that run on Friday. I think this one will be over rather quickly with Miro retaining the title.

Hangman Page & 10 vs Brian Cage & Powerhouse Hobbs

This match is coming off the back of the Page/ Cage match from Double or Nothing, where Brian Cage wanted to beat Hangman without the help of Team Taz, but when Ricky Starks and Hook tried to help Cage, it was actually more of a distraction that cost Cage the match. Taz wanted this match to show that there is no friction within Team Taz, and we’ll see if they can pull that off.

On the other hand, Hangman Page hasn’t actually joined the Dark Order, but they seem to get along just fine. Page has teamed with Dark Order members before, and it usually works well for both parties. It’ll be Preston “10” Vance who steps up this time to team with the Hangman, and try to get one of his biggest wins to date.

This will be a great showcase match for both 10 and for Powerhouse Hobbs who are both wrestlers with great potential, and could both benefit from Dynamite TV time. I think this could be the night that Brian Cage leaves Team Taz, and the team of Hangman and 10 pick up the victory.

Also scheduled for Friday night Dynamite, are three big promos. First up, Cody Rhodes has a “special announcement” to make, we’ll hear from Darby Allin and Sting, and the Pinnacle will respond to the challenges laid out by the Inner Circle. Christian Cage with take on Angelico in singles action, and the Murderhawk Lance Archer will also be in action, and after his loss from DoN, he won’t be in a good mood…good luck to his opponent.

All this and so much more can be seen on TNT (TSN in Canada) at a special day and time of Friday at 10PM.
