Winners
Chicago Bears: If I had to crown one winner it’d be the Bears. Nagy and company knew Bears fans were enraged with Dalton being named QB1. Dalton may still be the starter when the season rolls around, but that don’t matter. What matters is that the Bears finally have something to look forward to and just landed the third best QB in the draft. I love that they traded up to get him. Don’t forget these guys drafted Teven Jenkins who I was sure was going to get drafted in the first round. Jenkins is strong and blocks like his life depends on it. These 2 picks alone were enough to declare them the winners.
New York Jets: The Jets did what they needed to do. They addressed areas of need. Some say Wilson will be a bust, but I like the pick. Wilson had a remarkable season at BYU and I think he’s ready for the challenge. Trading up for Alijah Vera-Tucker was perfect. He has a ton of upside and you gotta protect your next franchise QB. Elijah Moore slipping to the second round surprised me. The Jets scooped him up right away in round 2 and added Michael Carter out of North Carolina in round 4. Carter split carries with Williams last season so he should be fresh.
Baltimore Ravens: For the second year in a row the Ravens nailed the draft. Bateman is the perfect receiver for the Ravens offense. Ben Cleveland out of Georgia is a big boy and should provide Jackson with more time to throw. Linebacker of out Notre Dame, Daelin Hayes, is underrated. With all the talent the Fighting Irish have he has been overlooked. Similarly to wide receiver Tylan Wallace. I don’t know why we haven’t heard his name much, but trust me he can ball.
Losers
Las Vegas Raiders: They drafted Alex Leatherwood in the first round. Enough said.
Washington: The fact they did not even draft a QB is very surprising to me. Yes Fitzpatrick and Heinicke played fairly well last year, but the former is old and the latter unproven. I get 5 QBs were taken before their pick at 19, but they had 10 picks. They should’ve drafted one QB at the very least. Respect for drafting the Montrealer Benjamin St-Juste though.
Denver Broncos: The Broncos must have thought they had Aaron Rodgers in the bag. If not, why not draft Fields or even Mac Jones at 9? No disrespect towards Patrick Surtain II. He has elite talent and is one of the best, if not the best, corner in the draft. How often do you get to draft in the top 10 though? This was the year for the Broncos to draft a QB. Not sure when we’ll see another QB class like this one. I still have faith in Drew Lock, but to pass on both Fields and Jones was a mistake if they do not get Rodgers. I like the Javonte Williams pick though. Their gonna need him to make an immediate impact.
