Last week’s Dynamite ended with a shock heel turn by the Young Bucks who realigned with the AEW champion Kenny Omega. Personally, I’m happy with the Bucks joining Omega again as I’ve been following them for a while and love them together. Matt and Nick have to shift their focus to tonight’s Dynamite as they have their tag team titles on the line against two of the best wrestlers in the world. The TNT Title will be on the line as well in a falls count anywhere match, the first match between the Inner Circle and the Pinnacle will take place with a special guest enforcer, rivals will finally face off in a one-on-one match, and a high profile debut.
All that and so much more on tonight’s episode and we’ll break it all down here.
The Young Bucks (C) vs Death Triangle’s PAC and Rey Fenix
This match is happening because of the Battle Royale that PAC and Fenix won way back at Revolution on March 7th. The reason why it has taken so long to happen is because of the injury that PAC suffered. The good news is, PAC is healthy now and ready to go!
The injury has caused the tag team title plans to be in limbo because the story couldn’t progress as long as the Death Triangle were owed a shot, but PAC couldn’t wrestle. AEW could’ve given us the classic Lucha Bros vs Young Bucks, but I’m glad they held off because PAC and Fenix will give us a new take on this feud.
While there hasn’t been much of a build up for this match, both teams have remained busy and relevant on tv with the Bucks being involved in the Omega saga, and PAC and Fenix being involved with the returning Trent and Best Friends.
This match is going to be fantastic, sign me up every single time that Rey Fenix and Nick Jackson are in the same match. We’ll see how the chemistry is between PAC and Fenix as they have no where near the amount of experience teaming together as the champions do, and the Young Bucks could have the Super Elite in their corner again and that could be a deciding factor. What ever the case may be, I expect a Young Bucks title defence here.
Dax Harwood vs Chris Jericho (Special Enforcer: Mike Tyson)
After cutting one of the best promos of the year so far, Chris Jericho emphatically announced that the Inner Circle are back and better than ever. Jericho took jabs at every single member of the Pinnacle, and it seems as though Dax Harwood will be answering the call.
Dax Harwood is half of one of the best tag teams in the world, but he showed he’s also a great singles wrestler as well. The match he had with Jungleboy about a month a go was fantastic, really helping Jungleboy get over and look great doing so. This time, Dax won’t be getting a youngster, he’ll be facing one of the most experienced wrestlers in the game today in “Le Champion” Chris Jericho.
Jericho also finished his rant by saying that the Inner Circle will take on the Pinnacle in the first ever “Blood & Guts” match in May, but for tonight’s single’s match both faction will be barred from ringside and it will be none other then Mike Tyson who will be the enforcer. Tyson came to the aide of Jericho last week… the two have seemed to squash the beef they previously had.
I think it’ll be Jericho who comes out victorious in this first chapter of this feud and I look forward to the absolute WAR that Blood & Guts is going to be.
Darby Allin (C) vs Matt Hardy – Falls Count Anywhere
Staying true to his words, Darby Allin is defending the TNT Title on a bi-weekly basis, and it’s really benefiting him as a wrestler, but also has given the title itself extra elevation. After his last successful defence against big JD Drake, Darby must now turn his attention to the 28 year veteran Matt Hardy.
Matt Hardy is part of one the best tag teams of all time and is a 10 time tag team champion in WWF/E, but he’s also won tons of singles championship as well, and tonight, he’s focused on Darby’ TNT title. Matt Hardy has been quietly building a faction of his own recently, as he’s been managing the Private Party, and a couple weeks ago, he enlisted the help of the Butcher, the Blade and Bunny. He will definitely have the numbers advantage in this match.
Why the numbers advantage so important is because in Falls Count Anywhere match, there is no disqualifications, meaning if all 5 members of Hardy’s faction want to get involved, there’s no rules against it. Darby won’t have as many people in his corner, but he will have the Icon Sting who will inevitably make an appearance should anyone get involved on Matt Hardy’s behalf.
This will be an interesting match, as I can really see it going both ways, but again I’ll go with another title defence here with Darby retaining.
Also announced for tonight’s Dynamite, we will finally see Jade Cargill vs Red Velvet in a singles match. This has been a low-key great build, and even though the story has been spread out, AEW have done a good job of keeping this story relevant. We will also see the debut of former boxer Anthony Ogogo, who recently aligned himself with QT Marshall and defected from the Nightmare Family. Last but not least, we’ll also see an in-ring return of Kris Statlander who made her return from injury to help Best Friends two weeks ago.
All this and so much more can be seen on TNT (or TSN in Canada) at 8PM EST.
