The 2021 Master’s Tournament is at halftime and we haven’t come close to seeing any of the major moments that we’re used to. Fleetwood’s Hole in one on 16 makes it the 23rd Hole in One in the History at Augusta and it was impressive. S.W Kim putting with a 3Wood is another level of weird. Other interesting storylines worth following are the emergence of Brian Harman and his case for contention and, along with the rest of the world, seeing Justin Rose tee off on Saturday with a four stroke lead at 7 under par. Rose choked on the 2nd day shooting four bogies on the front nine alone. He recovered and finished the day at Even par while maintaining his lead of the tournament by one stroke over Harman and young gun Will Zalatoris.
Brian Harman is at +1100 to win the tournament right now. That number is crazy because he’s one shot back from the lead heading into Saturday. The course is very windy today and is favouring lefties. Much harder for a righty to fade into the wind while a lefty can lay a simple cut in the same direction and play fairway shots. Harman makes excellent contact with the ball and is a lefty.
Tony Finau at +1150 isn’t a bad bet either because of his accuracy and contact ability. Sitting at -4 heading into Saturday, we can expect Finau to climb up the ladder. On Day 2 Finau was -6 on Friday starting the day with an eagle on 2nd and three birdies on the front nine. Two bogies on the back left him T6 when the day was over.
The man the media has been shoving down our throats is at -5 for the tournament and his name is Jordan Spieth. Spieth is +325 to win the tournament and will definitely be someone to keep an eye on. His odds are meant to keep an eye on and not jump the gun. Expect the odds to drop a bit but he should have a good start for sunday after today.
Enjoy the event because it’s one of the best sporting events we have to watch. The drama, the fans, the views. I can’t get enough of it.
