Last week’s episode of Dynamite did a great job furthering multiple storylines, setting up basically the entirety of this show, while also providing awesome in ring action that was capped off by Darby Allin successfully defending his TNT championship vs John Silver.
Tonight’s episode will include an “Arcade Anarchy” match, a couple of big time tag team bouts, a exhibition match pitting long time friends against each other, and of course the AEW in ring debut of Christian Cage. This is looking like another jam-packed episode of Dynamite and here is where we’ll break it all down.
Christian Cage vs Frankie Kazarian
It was at AEW’s pay-per-view, Revolution, where Christian Cage made his shocking debut for the company. The signing was so stunning because Cage had appeared in a WWE at the Royal Rumble only 5 weeks earlier.
Christian Cage had stepped away from wrestling for the past 7 years due to injury before making his return at the Rumble. Many thought that an Edge & Christian reunion was around the corner but Cage decided to go to AEW. Christian looked good in the Royal Rumble, but that is a match that can protect returning wrestlers from any ring rust or any big bumps, let’s see what happens now when Cage goes one-on-one with an old opponent.
Frankie Kazarian is a long time pro and is no stranger to mixing it up with Christian Cage as the two have met before in their TNA days. Kaz has been mainly focused on his SCU storyline in the tag division, but he’s moving that aside as he steps into a big singles match tonight.
I think choosing Kazarian as Christian Cage’s first opponent back is a great call by Tony Khan, as it’ll be a familiar face for Cage who again has been out of singles action for more then 7 years. Kaz is a great veteran and I’m sure will help Cage if there is any ring rust, and it’ll lead to a awesome return for Christian Cage.
AEW Champion Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers vs Lucha Bros & Laredo Kid
Kenny Omega’s work, both in ring and out, has been some of the best in wrestling over past decade. Tonight’s match is fallout from last week’s aftermath promo, where the Young Bucks walked out on Kenny, before the Lucha Bros spiked the AEW Champion with a package piledriver.
The Good Brothers would eventually make their way to the ring to make the save for Omega but the damage had already been done. Since Laredo Kid is already there, it just made sense to have another 6-man tag featuring the Lucha Bros.
Omega has had unbelievable matches with all 3 of his opponents individually, so let’s see how he can fare with Gallows & Anderson. Rey Fenix is currently in limbo at the moment as he has earned a shot at the tag titles, but his partner PAC is injured, so I guess these matches can be viewed as filler matches until PAC is cleared. This one will be wild (like all of the Lucha Bros’ matches are), and I expect to see Omega add another win to his collection.
Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy vs Miro & Kip Sabian (Arcade Anarchy)
So this match is set up to be one of the most gimmicky matches in a long time. Arcade games will be placed around the ring and if Miro and Kip win, Chuck will be Miro’s butler forever. No you didn’t read that wrong, that is an actually match with all those stipulations and it’s happening live on Dynamite (don’t tell Jim Cornette, he might have a heart attack).
This feud has been going on a long time at this point, and I’m hoping that this is the blow off to the entire thing. I think Trent getting injured really derailed this story that they never seemed to be able to get the train back on the tracks. Now we’re at a point where even the winning side won’t benefit much from the match.
The way that Miro could come out a winner from this angle, is if he actually loses this match. I don’t think anybody wants to see Chuckie T a butler forever, but what a lot of people want is for Miro step away from Kip. If Sabian takes the pinfall in this match, Miro could lose it on him and branch off on his own as the destructive force we know he could be.
We also have two other big matches that have already been announced for Dynamite, and they are the AEW women’s champion Hikaru Shida teaming up with Tay Conti to take on the team of Nyla Rose and the Bunny. The announced match is an exhibition match between QT Marshall and Cody Rhodes where Marshall wants to prove he’s in AEW for his skill and not because he’s Cody’s friend. Arn Anderson will be the special guest referee for that match as well. Also added last night, Jon Moxley will be in action, taking on big man Cezar Bononi.
All this and so much more can be seen on TNT (or TSN in Canada) at 8PM EST.
