AEW Dynamite Preview: Beach Break

This installment of AEW will arguably be it’s biggest show of the year so far – We’ll have the AEW Champ Kenny Omega in action, a tag team battle royal to determine the #1 contender and we’ll also have wedding (What can’t you find in professional wrestling?).

Let’s run through the match card.

Kenny Omega (with Don Callis) & the Good Brothers – vs – Jon Moxley, PAC & Fenix.

The opening for Jon Moxley to slip into this match came when Omega and the Good Brothers attacked Penta El Zero M taking him out of the match. So, Moxley will team up with the rest of Death Triangle to gain some sort of revenge on the current AEW Champion Kenny Omega. With so much amazing talent in one match there is no choice but for this to be a great battle. Let’s just hope Don Callis doesn’t get too involved…

Tag Team Battle Royal to determine the #1 contenders

I need to start off with a little criticism by saying I’m not sure I agree with all three teams from the Inner Circle being involved in this match – why two weeks ago on dynamite did they have a match to determine who would represent the Inner Circle as a tag team going forward, if all three teams are going to be involved in this match? I’m just nitpicking here, but it’s the little things that matter.

Unlike traditional #1 Contenders matches, the champions will be involved. If the Young Bucks win the battle royal, they as champions will get to choose their challengers, which the Bucks reminded us at the end of last week’s show.

The Young Bucks also teased the idea of choosing to challenge the Impact Tag Champs if they win the Battle Royal (as a cross company match, this would be a must see). If they don’t win the Battle Royal, they’ll be matched up against another AEW tag team for a title match. Considering the Bucks are one of the best tag teams on the planet, either match up will be a memorable one, but I’m lowkey hoping for the prospect of an inter-promotional title match.

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford’s Wedding

This story has been building for some time now, and we’ll finally see the wedding at Beach Break. There have been some positives to this story, like the introduction of Miro to AEW and getting Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy involved. There have also been some negatives, like the promise of the best bachelor party (we’ve seen squat so far).

As we have seen in the past, wrestling weddings almost never go according to plan for the bride and groom. I don’t expect to see the happy couple driving off into the sunset without a few bumps in the road first. Let’s see if they even make it down the aisle.

Lance Archer vs Eddie Kingston (Lumberjack match)

Last week on Dynamite, Lance Archer was firmly in control of his match against Eddie Kingston before all the shenanigans went down. Kingston stole the win with the help of a distraction from the Butcher, the Blade and the Bunny. The Bunny handed Eddie knuckle dusters, which he used to clock Archer with to get the pinfall victory. It’s safe to say Lance Archer is not in a good mood going into Beach Break. The first match was very physical, and I expect very much of the same in round two. This time wrestlers will surround the ring, meaning Kingston won’t have anywhere to hide.

Britt Baker (with Reba) vs Thunder Rosa

After weeks of being humiliated and disrespected by Dr Britt Baker, Thunder Rosa finally has a chance to get even. Britt has done a great job showing how worried she is about facing Thunder Rosa, and that has added to the build of this match nicely. Both these wrestlers are really talented, and I think this could be a sleeper for match of the night.

Matt Hardy and Hangman Adam Page in Action

It was just announced on Impact Wrestling that Matt Hardy will be teaming up with the Hangman for the first time ever. Matt Hardy is the most recent wrestler to try to recruit Adam Page, and if they are victorious in their debut, maybe that will sway Page to joining the Hardy brand. That or just some good whiskey!

Beach Break is an absolutely stacked card and somehow this is free television and not a PPV.

Will we find out more on the latest Cody/Red Velvet vs Shaq/Jade Cargill story? Will we hear more from Sting and Darby Allin and their feud with Team Taz? Will we find out more of the wrestlers for the #1 contenders Women’s tournament?

Beach Break is live on TNT (and TSN in Canada) starting at 8PM EST.
