Terry Tam’s Bad Beats: UFC 257 Mcgregor vs Poirier, Hooker vs Chandler

It’s FIGHT DAY! I’m so pumped for this card and not for the actual fights. I love both main event fights but realistically, the opportunities to win some money is what’s getting to me. I see a lot of analysts picking the winners of these fights, but I want to look a little deeper. Even while betting on Hockey or Basketball, I like to bet on quarters, halves, I even bet on how many corners are being taken in soccer games. Yes, I’m weird but it’s the best way to make money and grow your bank. Now forget about my degenerate gambling methods, here’s my breakdown for the premier fights of UFC 257.

I want to focus a bit more on teh Prelims, this is where there’s some good money to be made. Whenever the Main card has a premier fighter like Conor Mcgregor, there are usually some hidden gems on The Prelims. Here are two fights that I highlighted

Julianna Pena (10-4) vs Sarah Mcmann (12-5)

I love this fight! Pena is a very good fighter and the fight odds do no give her enough respect. She’s coming off a loss to Germaine De Randamie in October of 2020 while wrestling legend, Sara Mcmann hasn’t fought since January 2020. It’s a tough fight to judsge with both women having trememdous wrestling skills (advantage Mcmann), Pena having the much better standup game. The public seems to be favouring Mcmann and that’s why at +106 I like the Pena bet.

Brad Tavares (17-7) vs Antonio Carlos Jr. (11-4)

Brad Tavares was a big Welterweight prospect at one point. Two losses in a row since July 2018 puts him on the chopping block. I’ll be completely honest and say that I thought he was already cut lol. This is a make or break for Tavares after the UFC said they will be cutting 60 fighters before March 2021. They didn’t give him an easy task, Antonio Carlos Jr. is a tough guy to fight against. Carlos has a 4 inch reach advantage and is a World Champion in BJJ. His stand up has evolved tremendously, the TUF Brazil champ has every reason to KO Tavares and send him his walking papers. Sad to say that I will be making some coin on Tavares being cut and his last fight in the UFC. The line is pretty Even but there is some money to get on a finish .

Antonio Carlos Jr by KO pays +355

Dan Hooker #6 (20-9) vs Michael Chandler (21-5)

This is the hardest fight to predict. I racked my brain, watched every pre fight interview and looked at some old fights from both these competitors. The one that kept on coming out to me is that Dan “Hangman” Hookers is a brawler and has all the confidence in the world. He has been in the talks of every pundit, analyst as the future of the division. He took a beating from #1 Lightweight contender Dustin Poirier and lived to t talk about it. Chandler is a grinder, he’s a wrestler that will take you down and ruin your will to fight. Hooker is going in with nothing to lose. Chandler is going in with the weight of every Bellator, WSOF, Rizin fighters on his back. It’s very rare that someone from outside the UFC comes in and does well right away. Gaethje and Askren are the most notable that saw losses. Hooker is the favourite at -135 so I looked for odds on a decision in favour of the Kiwi.

Dan Hooker by decision +295

Dustin Poirier #1 (26-6) vs Conor Mcgregor #4 (22-4)

This is the fight that will everyone else on this card rich. Love him or hate him, Conor is always a draw. I’m looking forward to seeing the focused Conor again. I hope it’s for real this time. Is the love these two fighter have for each other a bit too cheesy? Absolutely. Conor is the favourite for good reason at -305. Since their fist fight 7 years ago, Dustin has has a 10-2-1 record grinding to get back to the top. He tasted success winning the interim championship but lost to Khabib in the unifcation bout. Poirier has improved so much and his boxing is world class. Conor is Conor, he usually wins the fight before the fight but opted to take the humble route. Doesn’t mean he isn’t uber confident about what willhappen. Conor predicts a quicker KO then the first time. I don’t see it. Conor at -305 doesn’t excite me. Conor by KO is where the public is leaning at -185 ,But Poirier om a decision get my blood pumping.

Dustin Poirier decision +800
