The January Transfer Window is almost over, and we are still waiting for that big signing, which is looking less likely to happen.
The football world was hit hard, like most industries by Covid this year, and the loss of fans in the stadiums = huge revenue losses. These stadiums sometimes can be filled 6 x more than your average NHL arena. Barcelona’s Camp Nou can seat 99,354 fans, while the Winnipeg Jets arena only holds 15294 fans. That’s a big difference in people and money!
Now there are some deals happening, but most teams are looking for low budget moves, to get through the end of the season and reassess in the summer, or young cheap prospects to help for years to come.
David Alaba, out of contract come July 1st 2021, opted out of renewing with Bayern Munich, even after winning Germany’s domestic title and the Champions League cup last year. The player is a dynamic Cb who can play as a Lb and even in the midfield if you need him to. Rated 84 in Fifa 21 for good reason, he can set up a goal, stop a goal, make a pretty pass or lay down a leg breaking tackle. His name has been spoken about all year due to him refusing to renew with Bayern, and it looks like Real Madrid have broken ground. Rumor has it an agreement is in place on a 4 year deal, with a medical already complete. There is a strong change he will be a Madrista in the summer, and what a good signing he will be!

Real Madrid’s Dominoes are falling.
This new signing signals the potential outgoing of club captain Sergio Ramos. The 2 time Euro Cup, and 1 time World Cup winner’s future has been debated for the last few months. Will PSG end up signing him? Will he go to Juventus and reunite with Ronaldo, replacing Giorgio Chiellini who may retire this year with injuries catching up to his 36 year old legs? One thing is almost certain, if Real do sign Alaba, Ramos will no longer be guaranteed a place in manager Zidane’s starting lineup.
Another Real Madrid player who may possibly leave the club is left back Marcelo, who has lost his starting place to Ferland Mendy slowly over the last 2 years. There were rumors of him leaving last year, also to reunite with Ronaldo at Juventus, but with Alex Sandro as the starting Lb, it didn’t seem likely.
Marcelo in orange sits on the bench next to another player who received similar treatment from Zidane, Gareth Bale:
As Monaco are planning to offer Marcelo a solution. Come to France’s Ligue 1, and play. He would immediately be a starter with Monaco, who are not doing too bad for themselves currently in 4th place. The Brazilian now must decide: take a pay cut and actually play with Monaco, or sit on the bench but bring in more money at Real?
A Seria A Italian Slap to the Face
Ac Milan has been outstanding this year, and they are looking to bring in several reinforcements to not lose the chokehold the currently have on Serie A. They are also bringing in one of last year’s champions Juventus’s former players to help. Mario Mandzukic has signed on with Ac Milan and as Zlatan Ibrahimovic put’s it ‘’I’m happy, now we have two players that scare opponents’’, referring to Mario and himself of course. The new player is amazing in the air, scored one of the best Champions League goals I have ever seen, and is a giant brute force known to create space for his teammates. The player was a fan favorite for all those reasons and more, having celebrated multiple times with the club’s Ultras. This will leave a bitter taste in the mouth’s of Juventini all over.
Voted as UCL goal of the year:
Milan have confirmed Fikayo Tomori is joining from Chelsea, and as per legendary Italian defender Paolo Maldini, Timori is ‘’perfect’’ for the system. Set for a 6 month loan + option to buy for around 30m£. The Cb couldn’t break into a Chelsea squad with Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva as starters, only 23 years old is one to watch for the future. This will be a big loss for Frank Lampard and he will only really notice it in a year or 2.
It’s not only Tea Time in England
Brazilian right back Hector Bellerin, currently with Arsenal is a wanted man. While he doesn’t have trouble getting into the starting lineup, his ambitions might be pushing to consider PSG and Barcelona’s interest. The player has won 3 FA cups and 3 Community Shield cups, he may want to squeeze in a league title at some point. The fact that he spent 8 years in Barcelona’s youth academy might make his possible return ideal. Still only 25 years old, wherever he ends up he has time on his side. One thing to consider is PSG and Barcelona are both in better positions to win cups and league titles than current 10th placed Arsenal.
PSG is going all in for Dele Alli, as the NEW current head coach Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring his former player to Paris. Alli had his best years under Pochettino at Tottenham and has lost form since, only starting 4 games this year. The player is fed up of being on the bench and is demanding to be allowed to leave on at least a 6 month loan. The only problem is Tottenham’s coach Jose Mourinho is adamant all players are needed for the rest of the year given all the cups they are competing for, and does not want to let him go.

Closer to Home
Inter Miami have found a new coach in Phil Neville, former Manchester United full back taking over his old teammate David Beckham’s MLS franchise. Neville has been coaching England’s Women’s team since 2018 and stepped down last week in anticipation of his new move. Though he has won no major titles won as a coach, he helped the women’s England team qualify for the 2019 World Cup where they finished in 4th place. He also led them to qualify for the 2021 Euro cup, where they will have someone new on the sidelines taking over for Neville as he begins his journey with Inter Miami.
