Football Hockey NFL NHL Playoffs

Easy Like a Monday Morning

In university a couple friends and I got together to rent a house. One of my roommates brought an old school box TV and it was perfect. It was a surprisingly big screen and we were able to rest my smaller TV on top of it. I wish I had our two TV set up right now because I could desperately use it tonight. I didn’t think it would be possible to be almost as excited for a Monday night NFL game as I am for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, but it’s Patrick Mahomes vs Lamar Jackson.

Stamkos has finally been ruled out for the remainder of the Finals. Not that this has an overwhelming affect on the series since he has only played a little under three minutes in the playoffs. At the same time, it must be a bit of a sigh of relief as the Stars will take any advantage they can get. Given the way this team has battled back in every series they have been in, it is fair to say that the Stars are far from done. I don’t know if I want to see a Game 7 or if I truly believe in their ability to win tonight, but let’s go Stars!

If Tampa Bay wins it is a toss up for who should get the Conn Smythe. Kucherov, Point and Hedman are the clear front runners, and I would give it to Hedman. Point and Kucherov’s brilliance and ability to shoulder the offensive production lost by the Stamkos injury is no small feat, but Hedman has been the most dominant player on the ice in most games.

On the flip side, if Dallas comes back, the Conn Smythe clearly deserves to be awarded to Khudobin with Heiskanen deserving a nod of recognition for second place.

I love the NFL schedule and playoff breakdown, but it does lead to making drastic proclamations on a weekly basis to pass the time. However, taking a look around the league there are a few things that seem to be pretty obvious. The first is that the Wild Wild NFC West is living up to it’s name so far. Overall the division is 9-3 with one of the losses coming from an in-division game and could be sporting three undefeated team’s if a few things went differently on Sunday. Or no undefeated teams, I’m sure Terry wants yesterday’s game back.

Speaking of undefeated teams, seeing the Packers at 3-0 hurts, seeing the Bears at 3-0 is infuriating. With the Vikings sitting at 0-3, I already know it is going to be a long season, and I expected the Packers to be good. But the Bears?!? Mitch Trubisky got benched against the Falcons and they are still 3-0. It did take a second epic collapse in back to back weeks by the Falcons for this improbable miracle to occur. The Falcon’s fan base has suffered enough so I will pass on them this week.

One final topic before moving on to the big game tonight; I love Bills Mafia. They, along with every other AFC East team has suffered a lot in the last two decades so I understand the joy and excitement around the team right now. They may have gotten a small wake up call against the Rams. I, (and maybe some of you as well) was surprisingly hit with a slew of texts and group chat messages from Bills fans talking about the Super Bowl. Love the spirit, and could only imagine the mayhem that would ensue during the celebrations, but I think the way those comments aged, speak for themselves. That being said, as a fan with nothing left to watch for in 2020, it is fun to watch from afar and I love to see Diggs succeeding.

Oh ya and the Chiefs vs the Ravens.

I am beginning to think that starting Week 3 off with an all Florida matchup on Thursday wasn’t an accident given the Monday Nighter. This is the matchup most fans want to see. The story lines are endless, and we got a small preview of what this game could be last season in Week 4. At that time Lamar had not yet cemented his MVP status, and Mahomes was not half way to becoming a billionaire.

Last season’s matchup was a lowly 33-28 win for the Chiefs. I say this because I hope that this game mimics more that of the Chiefs vs Rams from Monday night in 2018. The Chiefs lost 54-51 in the third highest scoring game in NFL history so this may be getting expectations a bit high. That being said, the Over/Under is currently set at 54.5 so feel free to hammer the Over. Incase you were wondering I am also taking KC with the spread, I have a hard time betting against Mahomes with points. I can also tell you that this is the first time I have bet against Lamar since Week 5 of last season.

I know that Alex the Intern is going to hate that last part, but we all win tonight. Provided you can get a two TV set up going.
